Aligners are an alternative to traditional braces and they work by moving the whole tooth (the visible part of the tooth called the crown, as well as the root) to give lasting results.
We’ll give you a set of aligners which you wear in a specific order from the beginning to end of the treatment. The aligner is changed once a week to move your teeth step by step to the desired position.
For the aligners to be able to move your teeth, we may need to create space to allow teeth to slide past each other. The main way to do this is interproximal reduction (IPR) - this is when we use a special kind of floss between teeth to file away a tiny amount (fractions of a millimetre) of the tooth enamel.

No, there are no hidden costs to Invisalign treatment at LDC. All finance at LDC is exclusive of deposits. Deposits range from £300 for SmileFast to £450 for Invisalign.
The £450 deposit for Invisalign pays for your ClinCheck (£350) and your OPG X-ray scan (£100)
This depends on your individual needs, but it is a short term treatment because we typically focus on moving the teeth that are visible when you smile, which are generally faster to move.
This on average takes around 6-9 months but for very simple treatments it can be as little as 2 months.
To make sure you get the smile you want, we recommend that you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day. You can remove them to eat and clean, which accounts for the other 2 hours in the day.
The aligners can be worn for all other kinds of activity, so you can do your thing (e.g. work, gym, sleep) while they work their magic.
The main way this is done by removing them when you eat. We suggest brushing your teeth after eating foods that are particularly staining, like tea, coffee and turmeric containing food.
To clean your aligners we recommend placing them in a glass of water with steradent cleaning tabs for 15 mins, perhaps while you brush your teeth and eat breakfast.
There is some level of discomfort but this much less compared to traditional braces.
As a whole, the discomfort reduces over the full course of treatment as you move through treatment, and the tightness you feel with each new aligner also lessens while you wear them throughout the week as your teeth straighten.
In fact, the tightness of a new aligner becomes an exciting feeling for many of our patients because they know that the pressure will move their teeth a little more and get them closer to their ideal smile!
The aligners are barely visible, you have to look very closely to see them.
This is why celebrities under close scrutiny use invisalign - even when you zoom in you can hardly see the aligners.
The alternatives are traditional braces which lack subtlety and work much slower, or lingual braces (metal on the inward facing side of teeth) which are very expensive and break easily - so you can see why we recommend Invisalign!
This happens very rarely, but to make sure your treatment is going to plan you’ll have appointments with us every 4 weeks to check that everything is tracking as it should. If we see that your teeth aren’t moving as we expected, we’ll rescan your teeth to create a new set of aligners at no extra cost to you.
